True to the spontaneous nature of skateboarding, the park comp presented a couple of surprises before the preliminary round drew to a close. First of all, despite some stylish skating, skateboard icon, Eric Koston did not qualify for the final round. Second of all, 13 year old am, Colin Provost qualified in 4th place, and, since ams can’t technically win cash in pro comps, he agreed to forego prize money so that 11th place qualifier, Chris Senn would be able to compete in the finals.

The smell of funnel cake and caramel corn hung around the vert ramp on the sticky afternoon of skateboard vert. Sandro Dias was determined to pull his 900 in the middle of his run, a feat that some people believed he could do, even though it had never been done before. Standing in his way was 03 LG gold medalist, Bucky Lasek and fellow Brazilian Bob Burnquist as well as Pierre-Luc Gagnon and the painfully consistent Andy Mac. Could he do it?
