The Fabulous One Dominates Women's Park

When Martina Svobodova twisted her knee and had to pull from the women’s park comp, she opened the competition to any possibility. Katie Ketchum showed up with a consistent 900. Fallon Heffernan spent the last year building a reputation as the toughest girl on the circuit, willing to throw herself into situations that most guys would think twice about. The rookie, Kaya Turski and the Englishwoman Jenna Downing showed up at practice with solid lines as well.

Unfortunately, after a massive true spin mizu on the sub box, Kaya wasn’t able to put her run together. Jenna, too, lacked the punch to stay in the top three.

Fallon pulled a very impressive alley oop topside soul on the sub box and stuck a few great transfers that couldn’t have been done without the kind of speed that Fallon generates, and finished with a bronze medal. Katie nailed her 900 as well as a whole host of technical switch-ups to land solidly in 2nd.

But nobody could touch The Fabulous One, Fabiola da Silva, who controlled every aspect of the course, from a creative line to difficult tricks like her pornstar down the ledge box. She skated away with a unanimous gold medal, and into the arms of her boyfriend, the 2004 LG Action Sports skateboard vert champion, Sandro Dias. What a couple!
